These two shows are both already up but will have their opening receptions this Friday: Transmission opens at the Florence Quater Gallery at the Southwest University of Visual Art in Tucson, reception from 6-8pm.
The show surveys diverse approaches which contemporary artists navigate the surging genre of video. This exhibition includes artists who disregard the everyday and expected use of the medium. The works consider the experimental, political, and expressionistic capacities of video art. The exhibition features a large projection looping works while smaller screens intermittently show individual works allowing viewers to intimately engage with all video works.
Also opening on Friday: Momentum at the L.A. Art Association Gallery 825, which celebrates the 40th anniversary of the Women's Caucus for Art. Reception 6-9pm.
This weekend I'll be at Woman Made Gallery (685 N. Milwaukee) discussing my piece in the show 20 in Their Twenties. The talk is from 2pm-4pm on Sunday, February 12. Woman Made Gallery is proud to host an artist talk in conjunction with its current group exhibition ‘20 in Their Twenties’. Led by juror and solo show artist Betsy Odom, the event will feature a number of artists from ‘20 in Their Twenties’. The talk will focus on the art pieces presented in the exhibition, their relationship to one another, and to any larger understanding we have of art-making by younger women.
...super excited about my first show in LA! Momentum is being held in conjunction with the 40th anniversary of the Women's Caucus for Art, and an updated version of Self-Portrait: Lying will be there. Go visit if you can: 825 Gallery, 825 N. La Cienega Blvd. Opening reception Feb. 24, 6:00-9:00 pm. Meanwhile, I'll be at Woman Made Gallery this week installing work for Twenty in their Twenties.
Just to explain why all future references to the Vermont Studio Center will contain a tidy subtitle: the Illinois Arts Council has awarded me a grant. Now that I'm government sponsored I get to inform you that ...this program is partially supported by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency.
At the Hand-in-Glove Conference this weekend for panels on Regional Art Ecosystems and Unconventional Residencies. Things I love about this conference: The most interesting conversations I've heard in a long time, almond croissants for breakfast, lunch by Eric May, and the fact that I can walk there from my house. Maybe I should start a food blog instead.
I am incredibly excited to have been offered a residency at the Vermont Studio Center. I'll be there next April enjoying early spring in northern VT!
July's been really busy and I am soooo excited to be participating in two amazing shows: PLEASE TOUCH THE ARTWORK, curated brilliantly by Emma Stein and opening in Chicago on July 16th, and the 7th Annual National Self-Portrait Exhibition at Zhou B Art Center in Bridgeport, opening July 15, where I'll be showing video work.
